Tania Gill
- About the Band
Tania Gill is a Toronto pianist, composer, arranger, and improviser known
for her versatility and originality. She plays piano, composes and arranges
for the chamber jazz ensemble Runcible Spoon and is the leader of the
trio The Mighty Gill Show. She is the pianist and/or
keyboardist in The Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band, The
See Through Trio, the band Saint Dirt Elementary School
and avante-rock group Deep Dark United. She is a past
member of the group ZebraDonk.
Tania has also worked with many of Canada’s greatest musicians including
Andrew Downing, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Gordon Downie, Phil
Dwyer, Terry Clarke, Jean Derome, David Mott, Jesse Zubot, Dylan Van Der
Schyff, The Rheostatics, Mia Sheard, Johnny Favorite, One Step Beyond,
John Millard, Jake Langley, Dione Taylor, Soular, Chris Gale, The WoodChoppers
Association, Victor Bateman, Rob Clutton, Doug Tielli, Justin Haynes,
Ronda Rindone and German synth player Thomas Lehn. She has toured
and performed in several major festivals.
Tania was arranger and conductor for the recently released Ron
Davis CD Shimmering Rhythm, was pianist and contributing
arranger for the recently recorded John Millard CD A
People’s Fame and was pianist and contributing arranger and
composer for Runcible Spoon’s recently released CD Raincoat
Lake. She has also recorded with Deep Dark United, St. Dirt Elementary
School, Alexis Baro, ZebraDonk, The Woodchoppers Association, Dave Clark,
Tannis Slimmon and Andrew Downing’s Roots IV: The Wellspring Project
among others.
Tania has a BMus in Jazz Performance from McGill University, studied
classical piano at The University of Victoria, and has
attended the Banff Centre for the Arts. She teaches at
Humber College and taught in the Cultural Studies Department
at Trent University. She is currently completing a Master
of Music program in Jazz Performance at the University of Toronto.
